Shipwreck Explorer →As our name suggests, the Centre national des naufrages du Québec (CNNQ) has a distinctive mission: to share, promote and celebrate the maritime heritage of the North Shore through acquisitions, exhibitions and other educational and tourism activities. Located in the heart of the village, the CNNQ is a tourism hub that also informs visitors about the maritime history of the North Shore and of Québec. For the community of Baie-Trinité, showcasing the artifacts from the Phips excavation is invaluable, and the CNNQ's related activities should help increase local economic benefits and, in the long term, the Centre's financial self-sufficiency.
The CNNQ presents Memory of the River, featuring artifacts from the Phips and Walker fleets as well as from other wrecks in the region. Its living-culture component brings together artisans who present products and works either inspired by the river or crafted from objects found on the beach — together forming what are known as “fortunes of the sea.” Both components shed light on the natural environment, presenting the biodiversity of the North Shore's beaches and the pollution found there.

Every wave that laps the shores of the St. Lawrence whispers a forgotten story, a precious heritage buried beneath its waters. At the heart of this maritime wealth stands the Centre national des naufrages du Québec, the passionate guardian of our North Shore region's underwater archaeological treasures.
Every gift counts. Each recovered piece is a part of our marine heritage that reclaims its place in our collective memory. Together, we can carry this maritime legacy forward, protect it for future generations and make it a treasure accessible to all.
